Welcome to Vacationland! Stop for a view of Stonewall Kitchens, manufacturers of Maine-made specialty condiments, jams and vinegars. Named for the graceful stonewalls that surrounded the original farm where the business took off from, you'll see them preparing these yummy foods. Enjoy a wine and cheese welcome reception upon arrival at your south coast Maine resort in Ogunquit, Maine for one night. Settle into the comforts of the Meadowmere Resort with, beautiful gardens, indoor and outdoor pools, Jacuzzi, pub and movie theater. The hotel is located within a 10 minute walk of the shoreline walking path along the coast and the shops in Ogunquit village. A Maine Tour "Lobsterette" will meet you at the hotel with your souvenir lobster hats. Dinner included this evening will be at a nearby restaurant. (Dinner)


Monday, June 18

After an included deluxe continental breakfast, meet your local guide for a tour of historic Portland, including a stop at Portland Head lighthouse - Maine's oldest and also the most photographed! Next you'll take a private, guided tour of another nearby lighthouse that is not normally open to the public. This lighthouse is accessed via a granite jetty (those unable to climb stairs or manage the uneven terrain to the lighthouse will visit nearby Bug Lighthouse Park with WWII Memorial instead). See how the lighthouse keepers lived on the Maine coast and enjoy the scenic view of Casco Bay when you walk out on the ledge at the top of this two story beacon. Enjoy lunch on your own in Freeport, home to the L.L. Bean flagship store and a variety of casual restaurants and cafés. Sit back and relax for your afternoon drive through the mid-coast Maine region, dotted with glimpses of quiet coves and bustling harbor villages. In the lobster capital of the world - Rockland - you'll tour the Maine Lighthouse Museum, which features the history of Maine's most prominent beacons. Then sit back and relax for your drive along the coast "downeast" to Bar Harbor. You'll see quiet little protected harbors filled with working lobster boats along the way. Ospreys and bald eagles nest high in the spruces along the rugged shores, deer browse the open fields, moose forage the wetlands and harbor seals make their annual pilgrimage to quiet coves. Check in to the Atlantic Eyrie lodge overlooking Frenchman's Bay in Bar Harbor for a two night stay. The hotel sits high on a hill with private balconies overlooking the harbor. Hotel features an outdoor pool and is one mile from downtown Bar Harbor. Dinner is included at a nearby restaurant. (Deluxe continental breakfast & dinner)

Tuesday, June 19

A deluxe continental breakfast is included at the hotel this morning. Bar Harbor has been celebrated for its breathtaking beauty ever since the island was discovered in 1604 by Samuel de Champlain, who named it "Isle de Monts Desert" (Mt. Desert Island) for its bare, desert-like mountaintops. This morning, enjoy a one hour horse-drawn carriage ride along the park carriage roads built by John D. Rockefeller Jr. You'll travel through some of Acadia's off-the-beaten-track scenic areas. Meet your local guide for a tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Here in the first national park founded east of the Mississippi, you'll see 9 mountains over 1000 feet high, stone bridges, lakes, ponds, trails and carriage roads. You will travel the entire Park Loop road with stops at Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole on Ocean Drive and Sieur De Mont Springs Wild Gardens of Acadia, plus learn about the rich and famous visitors who built summer cottages in Bar Harbor. Free time for lunch on your own in Bar Harbor and some time to explore the shops, boutiques and galleries in downtown Bar Harbor. There are also two parks and a shoreline walking trail here. This afternoon, tour the Bar Harbor Oceanarium, hear a talk about lobster fishing about lobster fishing at the Maine Lobster Museum there, and see how baby lobsters are raised in the Maine Lobster Hatchery. Don your souvenir Maine Lobster Hat for a traditional Maine lobsterbake dinner with all the fixin's. Alternate menus are steak and haddock. (Deluxe Continental Breakfast & Lobster choice dinner)

Wed. June 20

After a deluxe continental breakfast, head to Maine's pristine south coast region, famous for its stretches of sandy beaches and salt air breezes. Rest stop and bargain souvenirs at the Maine State Prison Store en route. Have lunch on your own in Kennebunkport's Dock Square with many restaurants, shops and art galleries to browse. Meet your local guide in Kennebunkport for a guided tour of this former shipbuilding town. View the sandy beaches, rocky coastline, Dock Square, the ornate "Wedding Cake House," former President Bush's summer estate and the seaside Franciscan Monastery. Enjoy a wine and cheese welcome reception upon arrival at your south coast Maine resort in Ogunquit, Maine for one night. Settle into the comforts of the Meadowmere Resort with, beautiful gardens, indoor and outdoor pools, Jacuzzi, pub and movie theater. Don your souvenir Maine lobster hat authentic downeast lobster bake dinner. Enroute to dinner, stop for a photo of Maine's southernmost lighthouse (may be done on way home instead). Then you'll feast on your choice of Maine boiled lobster or barbecued chicken, plus chowder, cultivated mussels, corn on the cob, Maine potatoes and blueberry crumb cake. Sing-along entertainment is included. (Deluxe continental Breakfast & lobster choice dinner)

Thurs. June 21

After a deluxe continental breakfast, take a one hour lobster boat cruise to learn how the Maine lobsterman makes his living. See the lobster traps hauled and learn all about lobster fishing. If time allows, free time in Ogunquit Village or Perkins Cove, or the Kittery outlet shops. Depart for home with your magical Maine coast memories.
